Being a filmmaker means one thing, always upgrading your gear to have the newest, fanciest, best piece of equipment possible. It is truly a never ending cycle that keeps filmmakers poor, but content (maybe?). I am truly addicted to purchasing gear. I love new tech, I love things that make my job easier, and my content look better. So when Sony announced the FS7mk2 in September of 2017, I gave my accountant a heart attack and put an order in straight away.
After playing the waiting game until late January, I finally got the camera. I was super excited to get it out of the box and compare it to the previous model of FS7. There have been some serious hardware upgrades, (which it needed) but the internals of the camera are pretty much the same, and it produces some seriously slick images.
One of the things I find most exciting about the camera is its future-proofed ability to shoot 4K Resolution images at 60frames per second (slow motion, half the speed of regular motion), which delivers some fantastic results. Coupled with 160frames per second at 1080p resolution, this camera can create some absolute stunning “dream like” sequences. which you can see in my test film below.
The Sony FS7 is very versatile and I have used it on Documentaries, High End Corporate work, Advertisements, and Music Videos and will be a relevant and useful piece of tech for years to come.
