April started to strong and midway through, my life was absolutely turned upside down in one of the worst ways. I was so stoked to be asked to go with Wild Pacific Media to the Northern Territory to shoot one of their upcoming 3D Imax films, 2 weeks of travelling around with an absolutely insane 3D RED EPIC rig that weighs about 70kg. In and out of boats and helicopters, shooting huge crocodiles and amazing animals through rain and sunshine in one of the most ancient landscapes in Australia, all the while learning from Nicholas Robinson and Caspar Mazotti, two of the most amazing Wildlife Cinematographers in Australia, and maybe the world.
The weekend I got back I started getting chest pains, took myself to the hospital where I found out that I had stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma. This is a cancer growing in the lymph nodes of my chest. Within 2 weeks of diagnosis I started Chemotherapy. It was alot to take on ina very short period of time, my wife and I are doing well, my family has been rocked, but I am very lucky to be surrounded by strong loving people. The treatment success rate of Hodgkins Lymphoma is huge with around about 95% cure rates. So we are not worried. I am imagining looking back in a few years time and seeing this event as a stepping stone, not a setback.
