As part of the Brisbane street art festival 2016, The Brisbane Collective put on a showcase at Crowbar Black in Fortitude valley and got myself and my close mate Wilson Bambrick in to film. Wilson and I shoot a fair bit of live music at crowbar, it is a strong passion of ours and Wilson also does a fantastic job of Crowbar TV. We work well as a team, always picking up what the other has missed and I always feel confident and relaxed when I am on a shoot with Wilson.

We started shooting in the late afternoon and I focused on the feature window of the bar, with a local artist Kasperart who gave me strict orders not to include his face in any shots, a common request for street artists due to the sometimes illegal nature of their work. the lighting was just right with LED tube/christmas lights surrounding his white paint pen creation, giving it an amazing somewhat unreal glow, which makes the image almost bounce of the window.

The live art wall was almost an interactive experience with some very notable artists all working together to construct an awesome wall full of provocative imaging, lots of focus on some very relevant and current issues, and each time we checked the timelapse the progression of the walls were astounding.

I am always happy to work with The Brisbane Collective, what they bring to Brissy with their magazine and shows is really a cultural boost, it’s hard work and I hope they continue getting the support they need to be doing it for a long time.
